I Am the Light, is another of my public art multi-dimensional art intervention programs including Ask Yourself, 2014 and I Learnt This, 2015 which amongst many things, take art to new audiences.
Making the piece involved people (interaction), text and colour (painting).
The painting and writing aspects of the work are made on 20 large sheets of hand-made paper that we produced in my studio from local materials (okra, sugarcane, banana), and about the project Anne McKeown says:
"...the remainder from the food of the fields of Nigeria [are] holding the words of the children and the youth of Nigeria..."
This piece is from the relational public art events that I activate with my audiences. It aimed at encouraging young people - who collaborated with me to make the whole series- to be the light wherever they are. This is our responsibility as human beings.
